Preparing Figures, Schemes and Tables

Figures, schemes and tables must be legible, numbered in the order cited and accompanied by concise captions. Labels, units, symbols and abbreviations should be consistent with the manuscript. Images must have enough resolution for online reading and should not be enlarged beyond their original quality.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reuse copyrighted visual material and for identifying the source in the caption. Manipulation that changes the scientific meaning of an image is not acceptable. Adjustments to brightness, contrast or colour should be applied consistently and disclosed when they could affect interpretation.

Underlying values for charts and tables should be retained and supplied to the editorial office when needed to support review or correction.
